I have locs and have had build up in my hair for years that I could never get out. I discovered it's from the hard water in Southern California and started using Vitamin C crystals. I bought the cheapest ones I could find on Amazon and would mix it with water. The problem was the metallic smell was so strong and would linger for a day or two. Although this is more expensive, the smell is much more manageable, there's no guessing with the measurements, and it mixes up into a convenient lovely paste. I'm going to try mixing it with bottled water instead of tap to help with the smell as well, since it's from the metals in the tap water. This leaves my hair feeling soft and breaks down all the build up keeping my hair feeling light and healthy.

As someone who suffers from an extremely dry scalp, I have to say this product is amazing! The first time I used it it stung my scalp so bad - but again I have an extremely dry scalp. I’ve been using it once a week and have noticed such a dramatic difference! My hair is super super shiny, soft and build up stays away for at least 3-4 days which for me is huge. 4 days later I realized I hadn’t had the urge to scratch my scalp. I gave 4 stars because the smell is not pleasant but don’t let that stop you!
